In the last newsletter, I touched base on Google’s consistent need for search engine optimization for your website. So, in THIS newsletter, I would like to focus on Google’s second demand….online reputation. Yes, you can optimize all your web pages for specific keywords all you want but if your reputation is not rock solid, you won’t rank very well at the end of the day.

Google also likes to look at what your customers think about your website; hence, we should all do everything that we can to build a good online reputation.

For search engine optimization, if content is KING, then link building is the QUEEN because if you wish to rank better or VERY WELL on Google, you need fresh, unique and consistent content and create links to your website. Every single link that comes to your website is a citation or a vote that tells Google that your website deserves to rank well. The more votes (links) coming in to your website, the easier it will be for you to rank on top pages of Google for your preferred keywords.

But here’s the catch…not just ANY link. Google wants quality links. Not links that were bought or ill-gotten ways of spamming on other people’s websites, blogs and online social networking sites. Quality links will help you build a credible online reputation.

Although we should focus on how to get people to link to you in this newsletter, what I would like to focus on this time round is how to create lasting impressions and building an estimable reputation.

The reason? Well, when you focus on simply building links, there is a risk of falling into a mad rage of planting links everywhere and forgetting what is important – your reputation! You end up buying pointless links, exchange links with others and submit links to your website to link farms.

There are countless black hat back-linking strategies and websites online and here, I must insist that you NOT use them. Refrain. There is a backlash to using the easy way out; one, you will ruin your reputation and two, Google frowns upon it and you may be penalized for engaging in such activities.

What you SHOULD concentrate on in order to build a good reputation is to work on your online social media marketing strategy. Engage your customers on sites like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or any other online social networking sites that you are on.

That is because we are dealing with human beings and as human beings, we prefer to interact. If you spam your network, then you are effectively spoiling your online reputation. Continue Reading »

What will Google be in 2015

What will Google Search be in 2015

From the informal survey, we know that people still think Google Search is King. If you have read a lot of news about Google, you will know that Google does keep improving themselves from time to time, to give quality searches to us. I believe most probably Google Search still the best at 2015.

Some people asked me if there is any conflict between Social Media Marketing and Search Engine Optimization, my answer is always “NO!”.

There are few reasons why Social Media Marketing and Search Engine Optimization works together.

1) Since Google able to index social networking sites, the same keywords you use on your Search Engine Optimization can be used on Social Media Marketing. Which means it saves your time from doing double works.

2) Link is fuel to Search Engine Optimization. Integrate your social media as part of link building campaign. Compared to comment on forums and blogs, link building with social media is faster and easier (if you use the right way).

3) People stay longer on your page if you included multimedia. PRWeb told that including multimedia in news releases increases time on page by an average of about 30 seconds. This is good for your blog and social media post.

4) Improve your online reputation. Search Engine is about relevance and authority. If you have good reputation on social media, you will have good authority for your website, and your website ranking will improve.

These are the few reasons you have integrate social media marketing to your search engine optimization plan.

Internet search engine Yahoo! has three new advertising formats which the company claims will bring rich media advertising to mobile screens.

According to Yahoo! there is an increasing number of people who access the Internet using their mobile phones and this will continue to grow as the adoption of smartphones soars.

Jon-Thin Kee, sales director of Yahoo! Malaysia, said Yahoo! views mobile devices as its new creative canvas.

“Yahoo!’s new mobile advertising formats offer advertisers the opportunity to experiment with new digital canvases and to engage their target audiences through sophisticated mobile advertising solutions,” he said.

One of the formats that Yahoo! offers is the expandable banner, which stretches downwards and can cover nearly two thirds of an iPhone screen.

Another one is the click to video banner, which shows a video clip when a user taps on it. A video plays on the native video player and users are brought back to the website to resume their session at the end of the clip.

The last format is an adhesion banner, which remains fixed in place on the screen. Yahoo! said this ensures the ad does not get lost while a user is looking through content on the device.

But users can expand or hide the banner as they consume their web content.

Kee announced that Yahoo! is also keen on increasing its search share and feels very positive that this goal can be achieved. “In Malaysia, a high percentage of searches are still done via Yahoo!,” he said.

Its new search direct feature will be key in achieving this goal. Search direct suggests trending searches the moment a user mouses over the search bar. And when a user types in a query, search direct will suggest other topics related to that query.

Kee said this feature is still in beta for PC web searches and will be available soon for mobile devices.

Despite the social network’s rapid growth, Facebook is still seeking ways to expand its revenues beyond advertising. eMarketer estimates that in 2010, advertising accounted for $1.86 billion, or 93% of the company’s total revenue, a figure that will fall to 90% in 2011.

This year, Facebook is expected to bring in $4.05 billion in advertising revenues worldwide, $2.19 billion of which will come from the US, eMarketer estimates.

Facebook "Send" Button

Facebook "Send" Button

Facebook launches “Send” button. Let us analyze it from the marketing point of view.

When we click “Share”, “Recommend” or “Like” on a web page, the web page will automatically publish on that person Facebook Wall, but for Facebook “Send” button, you can send the web page to your Facebook Groups, your Facebook friends, or any standard email address. It is actually more targeted compare to other buttons.

The chances for people who receive your message to open and read your message is higher because you have closer relationship with friends and group members that you know. The relationship is closer compared to Facebook “Recommend”, “Share” and “Like” buttons.
